Best free advice

The other day mother-in-law let me pick through her magazine collection and take whatever I wanted home with me. Well, there was a Quilting magazine that I wanted, and I found some of the best sewing design advice in there I've read to date. I will remember this the next time I am struggling to make a color match.

Everyday Inspiration

"Inspiration for quilts (and anything else to be sewn) is all around. Look for color and balance in works of art, magazine advertising--even cereal boxes and other food packaging. Someone got paid money to arrange these designs, so take advantage of it. For example, when I look at a box of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, I see a ratio of two-thirds medium and dark blue, one-third yellow and orange, a dash of red, and a tiny bit of white. I use these amounts as guides to pick a successful color combination from my stash."
